French startup Pi-Pop has come up with an interesting electric bike without lithium batteries. According to the brand’s claim, this electric bicycle can continue its journey without charging. It owes this to super capacitor technology.
Pi-Pop electric bicycle and its features
Electric bicycles and cars have already become an important part of our lives. But like any technology, electric vehicles have their drawbacks. The most important of these is battery life and charging problems. The French startup Pi-Pop perhaps offers an alternative battery solution for electric vehicles. Thanks to this battery technology, the Pi-Pop electric bicycle continues its journey without charging.
This technology, which we call super capacitor battery, is actually not a new technology. The battery, which is used instead of lithium-ion batteries, can charge itself while the bike is in motion. Especially on hills and roads where the bicycle gains momentum, the electric bicycle battery charges in a short time.
Super capacitor batteries also last much longer than lithium-ion batteries. In normal use, lithium ion batteries have a lifespan of approximately 6-7 years. The supercapacitor battery has a lifespan of 10-15 years. One of the main reasons for this is that it does not need recharging.
Production of lithium batteries is expected to increase in the next decade. Time will tell whether super capacitor batteries will replace lithium batteries. In particular, electric bicycle initiatives that run without charging may appear more in the future.
How the Pi-Pop supercapacitor battery works
Again, the Pi-Pop initiative used fully recyclable materials in this supercapacitor battery. Accordingly, the electric bicycle battery contains recyclable materials such as aluminum, carbon, cellulose and polymers. In fact, this is not the first time we have come across this technology. The technology, which first appeared at the end of the 1970s, has recently played a major role in energy efficiency, especially in hybrid vehicles.
Thanks to these features, the Pi-Pop electric bike is a model with no range limit. It comes with a retro design and a predominantly white color. The electric bicycle can travel up to 25 km and the motor produces 250 W of energy and 45 Nm of power. The electric bike weighs 21.7 kg.
